About Me.

Professional Summary

I was born and raised in Galveston, Texas. This makes me B.O.I. (Born On the Island). I graduated from Galveston’s Ball High School and attended Texas A&M University in College Station graduating with Bachelor’s Degrees in Speech Communication and Public Relations specializing in Journalism.

I've always worked in the public eye including my first job as a waterslide attendant at the now-defunct Sky Rapids Water Slide. My professional career began as a college intern in a small PR agency in Galveston which turned into my first full-time job after graduation. My experience comes from roles where I created communications strategies that were non-existent until I took the job.

I was the first in-house public relations manager for the Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau. I created my plan and became a go-to resource for the media by coordinating media tours, doing interviews on Galveston's tourism industry, and promoting major events such as Mardi Gras! Galveston. Plus, I pulled tourism partners together for a more cohesive effort. During my role as the public information officer at the Galveston Independent School District, I created GISD-TV and other communications programs.

I served in a leadership role for the GISD Educational Foundation which provides supplemental funding for school district teachers. And, while filling the role of public relations manager for Mitchell Historic Properties, I created a strategic marketing plan and created the organization’s first website. I didn't just publicize the company’s events, I worked to create new events to generate traffic to downtown Galveston and at the Mitchell-owned hotels.

My passion for Galveston’s history made my role in planning the Hotel Galvez’s Centennial Anniversary in 2011 critical. As Director of Communications for Hotel Galvez & Spa, The Tremont House, and Harbor House, I launched their initial email marketing campaigns, social media platforms, and reputation management program and created events with important connections to the hotels.

Now, I can add published author to my list as my longtime friend, Heidi Lutz and I, co-wrote “100 Things to Do in Galveston Before You Die,” published as part of a series by Reedy Press.

Now, I'm proud to use my experience to help my clients share their stories, host their events, or increase awareness about what they offer.

Interests

I love to travel and, during the years when I was a runner, I would schedule my races in cities I was interested in visiting. I love art museums, taking tours with locals (I'm actually a ToursByLocals guide), dining out, and wine from small family-owned vineyards.

My fondness for wine led me to join Scout & Cellar as an independent wine consultant so one of my passions is marketing clean-crafted wine through private tastings and sharing.
